Abstract
The article considers three English heroic romances - the anonymous Theophania (1655), Aretina (1660) by Sir G. Mackenzie, and Parthenissa (1655-1669) by Sir R. Boyle. The main baroque features discussed here are inconstancy and illusiveness of the surrounding world; the perplexity of the hero, who is trying hard to maintain constancy of purpose; insoluble moral-choice situations, when one has to pick between duty and virtue.
