Abstract
Christian world view based on the Bible (mainly the New Testament) is opposed in the poem to the pagan world of Gypsies and Russian Pre-Christian antiquity as well as to the paganism of the ancient Rome. This is reflected in its subtext. It testifies to Pushkin's overcoming his early atheism and paves the way to the concept of "Boris Godunov".
