Abstract
The assay examines the specific function of the word in the Surrealistic drama which itself can be considered as the “theatre of the word” dating back to the traditions of the Romantic and Symbolist drama. Theatrical dialogue and stage directions are not simply a technical device but an integral part of the oral text. The word literally becomes a source of energy and meaning making. The Surrealistic “theater of the word” is thus an attempt to create a new type of theatricality.
