Absract: The article considers enjambment in its relation to patterns of verse segmentation — the two types of poetic units’ interruption, which are not commonly addressed in scholarship side by side. The historiography of the question is accounted for; the major approaches to defining enjambment in the Russian and world traditions (French, German, and Anglo-American), modern, Medieval, and ancient are analyzed and classified.
Keywords: enjambment, concatenation, synapheia, verse segmentation
