Absract: The analyzed poem belongs to the corpus of Mandelstam’s poems, which were attached to the letters sent to Vyacheslav Ivanov and other correspondents during years 1909-1910. These texts give us a key to the creative process of the young poet in the period when he was working out his style and method immediately after and under the influence of lectures which Vyacheslav Ivanov delivered at his “Tower” in the spring of 1909. The author deals with subtexts and poetic allusions of the poem and establishes its hitherto unnoticed relation to the book of Ivanov Along the Stars discussed by Mandelstam in the letter to which the poem is attached. The author also supposes that this poetic response to the book might have caused alienation between the two poets.

Absract: We examine the genre of the very popular medieval collection of saints' lives, Jacobus de Voragine's Golden Legend. This work has traditionally been attributed to the so-called genre of “legendaria”. The prominent French medieval scholar Jacques Le Goff has recently called the Golden Legend a summa of sacral time. Disagreeing with Le Goff, we define the genre of the work as a summa of sanctity (hagiographical summa), to which we attribute its unprecedented success. We also make use of recent research in Byzantine hagiography to explain the reasons for the misunderstanding and underassessment of the Golden Legend in modern times.

Absract: This article looks into specific “Balkan-Serbian” custom to offer some sweets and cold water before a meal (so-called “posluzenje”), which seems to be reflected in the third chapter of “Eugene Onegin”. In the course of our investigation (studying commentaries to the text, as well as anthropology) no record of such a tradition within the Russian culture has been found. The author of this article believes that Pushkin's inclusion of the ceremony passage into the novel is informed by his visit to Odessa and his passionate feelings for Amalija Riznich, the wife of a rich and hospitable Serbian merchant.

Absract: After the first translations of the Korean poetry into Russian in the 1950s translators intensified their work especially in the 1970s. A. Akhmatova’s translations were republished, Alexander Zhovtis continued to translate the Korean classic poetry. Their’s works were represented the classical tradition in the translation of the poetry. But in the 1970s some young translators made an attempt to change this tradition and tried to translate Korean poems in the modernistic style.

Absract: The article considers types of pragmatic information essential for the lexicographic description of colloquial words. Four types of such information have been distinguished, and each type is illustrated by examples from the “Explanatory Dictionary of Russian Everyday Speech”. In the concluding part of the article it is argued that the failure to comply to pragmatic conditions for word use results in utterances that, though they do not violate the language norm, are pragmatically anomalous.
