The present article studies medieval summa as a literary genre in its own right with well-defined content and formal characteristics such as "collection of knowledge" on a given subject, strict classification of material, references to authorities, and both practical and moral aims. Originating in the scholastic method, the summa gradually expanded its range of applications, catering to broader categories of readers and even making its way into literature. The "Divina Commedia" of Dante Alighieri is considered as a special transformation of the genre of summa.

Absract: One particular characteristic of the Russian classical verse is its great rhythmic flexibility attributable to the high frequency of pyrrhic feet. This research seeks to account for the unprecedented rhythmical flexibility typical of the Russian iamb. The results of this study cast into doubt the popular notion that the prevalence of pyrrhic feet might be explained by the fact that Russian words have considerable length. By comparing the rhythmical development, which iambic pentameter underwent in Dutch, German, and Russian verse, it is possible to see that the level of rhythmical flexibility has not much to do with the average length of the rhythmic (phonetic) word in a language. It is clearly the specific historical origins of syllabotonic verse, which caused proliferation of pyrrhic feet in Russian verse.

Absract: Though the relationship between the ancient Greek tragedy and rhetoric (the art of discourse) is universally recognized, and extensively discussed in the scholarly literature, no attempts were made so far to investigate the ancient Indian drama from this point of view. The reasons for this are clear and related not only to the chamber, court and completely devoid of civil pathos character of the literary forms of the drama but to the very nature of ancient Indian rhetoric. Originated from the oral speech performed during the rituals the Indian rhetoric still remains a poorly studied subject. The aim of this article is to put forward the problem of the relationship between the rhetoric and drama in ancient India and to introduce new research materials relevant for the topic.
