Absract: The article offers an analysis of motive and conceptual structure of Lermontov's drafted text 'On a Burka...'. In effect, this analysis allows us to make general suggestions about the author's intention to finish up this fragment. The key emphasis here is on the polar structure of the Lermontov's poetic world. We argue that a set of basic oppositions might be seen as a plot in a contracted form. Its development would supposedly realize the contradictions, which are present in the draft as potential possibilities.

Absract: The article analyzes the specific relationship between the plot and space in Lermontov's 'Bela' and the principles of their interaction. The author argues that Romantic and Oriental/colonial plot schemes are not all-inclusive for Lermontov's story. In this regard, we study the role of space in the plot organization, which allows us to read - in a new way - the dramatic story of relations among Lermontov's characters belonging to different worlds.

Absract: Drawing upon the old stories about king Lear, W. Shakespeare came up with two plays - The True Chronicle of the History of the Life and Death of King Lear (c. 1606-1608) and The Tragedy of King Lear (c. 1608-1623). Starting from 1980s, Shakespearean scholars have been reading these texts as separate works, which pursue different artistic purposes: the latter text is considered to be more theatrical. Our aim here is to trace changes in meaning and imagery of the play when it shifts from chronicle to tragic mode. The article is written to commemorate Shakespeare's 450th anniversary.
